Exhibition from May 6 to October 21, 2018

As part of its 750th anniversary celebrations, the Koldinghus castle museum in Denmark is presenting The Splendour of Power exhibit.

Tiara

A collection of jewels and symbols of power from the Middles Ages to today are showcased in this former residence of the Danish royal family, telling a story that stretches back over seven centuries. Europe’s most eventful moments are retraced through the medals, tiaras, swords and signet rings that belonged to some of the continent’s most powerful people. Among these objects, the exhibit features exceptional loans from the Danish, Swedish and British royal collections.

Jewelry, as it connects public and private life, is an ideal witness to history. Not only does it reflect great political, social, stylistic and creative changes, it also showcases the personality of those who wear it.

The Cartier Collection is delighted to participate in this celebration and has lent jewels that belonged to the Queen of the Belgians, Queen Mary, the wife of King George V of England, and the Duchess of Windsor, for whom Edward VIII abdicated in 1936. Two bird brooches, created under the aegis of Jeanne Toussaint during the Second World War in protest of the German occupation, are also on display. Visitors will also be able to discover other creations from the Maison among the royal collections, such as a tiara from 1904 lent by Queen Anne-Marie of Greece.
